Let the Adventure Begin!
We have had a very busy week especially with the start of ECAs. The children have been so keen to engage with all the different activities. It was great to hear all the squeals of enjoyment. Just reminder that if you have signed your child up for a private ECA to please complete the enrolment form that has been sent to you.
Last week I shared with you our Marvellous Me programme. This week I would like to highlight our Read, Write Inc programme developed by Ruth Miskin. It is a synthetic phonics programme which develops children’s ability to read alongside their spelling and writing skills. It uses a consistent, fast-paced approach where children learn 44+ sounds and their matching letters, using “Fred Talk” to blend sounds for reading. The programme includes decodable books matched to children’s ability levels, ensuring they build confidence and fluency. The five key principles of this programme are: Purpose, Participation, Praise, Pace, and Passion. If you would be interested in finding out more about how we teach using this programme please fill in this form.
Recycling news
Our recycling competition has started and we are excited to say that a number of our classes have received their first tokens for the year:
RS – filled a trolley with 15 items so they receive their trolley token
1A – filled their breadtag tub so they receive a wheelchair token
What do we recycle?
Bread Tags: This goes towards buying a wheelchair for someone in need. We have managed to purchase a wheelchair with all the tags that we had collected in the past.
Food Forward: They are a company that supplies non perishable food to communities in crisis. We bring in non-perishable foodstuffs like rice, cans of food etc. These you can send to your child’s classroom. We have special bins for these.
U-Turn: Old clothes which then get distributed to the homeless community.
Paper and cardboard which we take to the recycling depot in Wynberg.
Paper: Blue bins
Flattened Cardboard: Yellow bins
Shredded paper: Next to the blue bins
Bread Tags: Red bin
Old Clothes: White bin
Don’t forget to let your teacher know if you have brought in any recycling so she can add it to the class tally.
